I know there was an old thread sometime last season about ski carriage, but I have just been asked by Skiworld for £25 per person to prebook skis onto a Monarch Airlines flight from Gatwick to Innsbruck in January.
I thought that was too high, so I contacted looked on their website which states their rate is £22.50 if you turn up and book, or £17.50 if you prebook beforehand. I am therefore at a loss as to why Skiworld want to charge £25.

Last season Monarch charged £15 per person per pair of skis, which was in line with the other charter companies. Easyjet and Ryanair now charge a lot more for their flights. If you look in the main tour operators brochures, they all say £15 per pair of skis again for this season. I actually got 2 pairs of skis onto a charter flight without paying last season, nobody checked!

Has anyone prebooked for this season, particularly if they are going with Monarch Airlines, or using Skiworld, and what seems to be the going rate?

Thinking about it, I think we had this problem going to Mayrhofen this year. If it's a Monarch chartered flight then they don't charge the operator anything but the operator can charge what they like.

I wonder if it was the same people... I'll have a look back through my emails.

Mine are prebooked on a First Choice flight (but operated by Thomsonfly) in Feb to Salzburg, and that cost £15 each. £25 seems a lot!!

Precisely my reason for asking, having always paid £15 before. Not happy!

it must be the same as lessons, ski hire and ski passes. The package company adds soooo much on top. I've booked directly ever since since my first ski holiday and have saved quite a lot of money (relatively!).

Phone them up and find out if they will do a price match thing  If they say no just tell them you want to cancel the booking and you will go to one of their competitors! Sure they will duely oblige then haha :-)

When we were booking next years trip to Ruka, hubby and I sat side by side with a laptop each and filled out booking forms to get prices from two popular travel agencies.
We both booked the same flight, same times, same accomodation, same every-thing, then went on to book thermal suits and boots, and four excursions. The excursions were exactly the same and carried out by the same safari company.....wow this was where the prices really differed. Taking into account the various internet and early booking discounts, there was a £500 difference in the total cost. Thats a huge difference
