My usual haunt for the past 6 years or so, The Hotel Vicky, isn't taking any bookings this summer.

Any news from those with their ears to the ground in the village?

Hi there Hamish,
It isn't clear if you are looking at summer or winter. If summer, I'm not sure that the Vicki remains open. Summer visitors to Niederau tend to be aged UK, or aged Germans. The Vicki does cater for a younger set, (I hear)

If you go summer, the Harfenwirt is good. If you want to know about winter, try contacting the visitor centre at: -
http://www.wildschoenau.com

Alternatively, you could pp Jan, but he might suggest staying at the Auhof, which I might add, looks a pretty good place to be.

Met several J2ers in Niederau, looked into the Vicki, the week you were there, no sign of a kilt, so gave up!

There are several new developments going on this year. There is a new replacement four person chairlift going in place of the single. The Harfenwirt is being extended.

Let me know if there is something specific that you cannot find elsewhere.

Strange that the Vicky isnt open :shock unless its getting a face lift ( it needs itand as Dave Mac said its usually the older folks that tend to visit in the summer. But i have seen it advertised in Crystals Active brochure in the past.Have a look at the Simmelwirt its the same price as the Vicky if not cheaper and its got an out door pool.

Look, if you two are going to insult me and keep going on about older folks I'll have to visit some other site

Seriously, I have been there with my family for the past several summers. I do know that crytal were supposed to be taking over all the Thomson Club hotels so maybe they are having a facelift for later on.

Luckily, being familiar with Niederau, I have alternate plans for the winter and this summer has been re-booked for the Harfenwirt.

Schuplatter here we come!

Location! Location! Location!.

Preaching to the converted on here but Niederau has a lot going for it - summer or winter.

Have seen more changes in staff than the hotel itself that's for sure.

The really sad thing is I had booked room 302 - right at the front in the middle with the best views of the Markbachjoch. I wonder what view we'll have from the other place?

Hi All,

In the interest of providing facts I went on a mission yesterday to find out for one and all what is happening at the Vicky!

It seems that the maths of the deal are such that the Vicky will only be open in the winter but (currently) for the next two winter seasons for sure!

Having popped round yesterday I don’t see any huge signs of refurbishment but then it’s quite a while till the winter season starts so I will keep an eye out for further news.

On the news front, the construction of the new 4-man chair is due to start on Monday and the lumberjacks have already started clearing the trees in anticipation. It’ll be very interesting to see how the new chair affects the dynamics of the resort especially around the classically busy moments at the beginning of the week.

Perhaps I will post some photos as the development goes ahead or I may just point the webcam that way

Hamish,

Re the room direction, email the Harfenwirt, (Google Harmony hotels or Harfenwirt) and just ask. Explain that you always have stayed at the Vicki(for 6 years), but are now trying the Harfenwirt. You always went to the Vicki because of the mountain view, and is it possible to have a room with a view of the Marbachjoch.

Herbert is totally market driven, and unless he has other preferred users, may well look on this as a way of gaining a long term customer.

You have been in Summer before. What walks have you done? We have, assuming going up the mountain by gondola: -
1) Rudis, Kasealm, (Cheese making farm, Horstieg, (tiny hut with photos of deceased Wildshonauers, Anton Graffe hutte, down the Hochberg.
2) Rubeszahl, and down Tennladen
3) Rubeszahl, and down the back of the Marbachjoch to Penningdorf.
4) Postbus to Worgl, then to Hopfgarten, climb up through the woods back to Niederau.

I think the Kundl Klamm is still closed, due to a rockfall, (it hit a German lady) last summer.

Any other interesting ones?
