This March I took up sailing as a means to fill in the gap between winters.

It turns out I actually quite like sailing to the point that today I took delivery of a Laser Vago sailing dinghy.

Of course a boat needs a name so after much deliberation we decided to name it after a member of the German womens ski team. Who did we choose?

You couldn't have one without the other!

look away now if you don't want to know.......

wednesday, 11th october 2006, wind 56 knots, gale force 11 - me with my boys (9 and 5 at the time) in life jackets on a portside birth, starboard portholes submerged, husband and father in law trying to pull the sails in, jenny(?) in shreds. one boat in our flotilla couldn't turn and was heading out into the med, they were rescued and didn't get back on the boat. another one crashed into rocks and had to change boats, they were back with us the next day.

lots of stories were told in sarsarla that night. one man, who was sitting comfortably with his g and t, described it as sounding like a train coming through the trees. it was very quick and very freaky!

beats sitting on a beach reading a book!

Yikes! I think I'll stick with sailing the Dinghy within the confines of Portland Harbour.
