It's not a daft question at all

This winter has seen airports and carriers refuse to have ski boots and ski helmets carried as hand luggage. The problem for everyone traveling is...it's not all airports and carriers
If you are traveling with some of the UK T.O's they have issued notices to travellers banning boots and helmets on grounds of safety (yes, really, I know 2 litres of whisky probably weighs more and would do more damage but think of the profits eh)
If you take your boots as carry on, then you risk losing them forever at securidee.
Perhaps pack your hand luggage with clothes from your suitcase and fill up the space with your boots.
