Hi Folks,

Forgive me for hijacking this thread but you collectively seem to be the oracle on ADH. I'm planning on going there with a group of 9-15 (securing commitment in stages!) in Feb 2011 and am looking for some decent budget catered chalets to stay in. I am trying to strike a balance between minimising price and cr*p food - I want one, I don't want the other!! Any suggestions would be very gratefully received?

Back on to ADH, the advice I would give you would be to make sure you get a chalet near one of the main lifts as it's quite a spread out village. If you go during a peak week and have to rely on the lobster pot lift (aka Telecentre?) then you have to allow a lot of time to get to the slopes. Another option could be one of the satelite villages which may be cheaper I think.

Tony's chalet seemed to be spot on and he only ever books bargains...

We were in chalet Ariane II in the Altiport area, which is for me the best place to stop as it is a collection of catered chalets in a specific area, located perfectly on a piste which runs into town to the main lift points. I would avoid stopping anywhere that means using the fish baskets.
One problem with Ariane II is that is run by Ski France, who have been the worst company I have ever dealt with.
Therefore, I would suggest looking at other chalets in the same area with other companies. Chalet Namika operated by Rocketski is a particularly nice one, and their prices are good.
Its a great ski area to explore, and I would defo use catered chalets in a resort like ADH which is hardly full of decent restaurants, and where (as is general for France) prices are not cheap.
Another option is the Hotel Beau Soleil, top of town and right next to the DMC lift. Its another Rocketski place, so they are hardly 5 star, but prices are good, and we ate here for lunch several times; its in a great spot for lift access and its actually a decent hotel too. Half board.
