I am flying out on sunday and the weather forecasts do not look too good. Rain forecasts and temperatures well above zero. Can anyone give me any further info. Repies would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks
AJ

Hi Gary Goz, Looks like snow showers are predicted for Wed,Thur and Fri with some more snow for the wkend.
Lets hope so as at the moment the temp is warmer in kitz today than in west yorkshire,14.5 degrees by lake schwarzsee and a chilly 9 degrees hear in wakefield. Jan`s your man for a more accurate forcast.

Hi All,

I don't know what all the fuss is about, we've had nearly a week now of bright sunshine during the day with a max temp of about -2 and then heavy fresh snowfall over-night The off piste is totally untracked and there are no lift queues, the après-ski bars are so quiet that they are giving away free beer and schnapps to anyone who asks and the lift company is paying people to ride the system. Urr hang on, that damm alarm clock is going off again (if you got this far and were kinda going with it, I'm sorry for teasing)

Actually we have been having some great sunshine and almost all the runs are skiable, yesterday the runs were holding up well until after lunch and even then they were just a bit "spring like" ...

I too have been keen to know what the bleep "Mr Snow God" thinks he's been playing at but a brief survey of the local meteorologists (in the bar) say that snow by the weekend isn't unrealistic. So what with Mr Admin’s wibbly wobbly things and my finger in the air it looks like next week should be one to watch

... but even if the Wildschoenau DOES have a dump next week, surely by now the ground is too warm to hold it? What base have you got there, Jan Stenmark? Sepp Seisl, Moarhof, would be my choice for an accurate forecast. L.

As long as the snow is better than the iced up Scottish resorts I'll be happy!

As they say if you can ski in Scotland you can ski anywhere

Roll on my week in Austria Woohoo About 15 sleeps or something now. Can't wait.

Jan, up for meeting up for a pint when im there??

Hi All,

In answer to questions about the snow / piste / base conditions I can confirm that there are increasingly large areas of grass around the resort but the main pistes are still covered.

Without doubt the base has suffered but I'm not convinced that the damage is irreparable. As Dave Mac and others have noted, Niederau is predominantly North facing and holds onto the base better than a low level resort has any real right to.

Looking at the weather today, it has been hot and sunny all day but now it’s feeling really eerie. There is a real feeling of anticipation in the atmosphere and some seriously dark clouds have started rolling in. The birds have been shouting all day and now they are silent and there’s not a breath of wind (so don’t ask me how the clouds are moving – ask Mr Admin!).

If I wake up tomorrow and it’s been snowing I don’t know if I’ll be surprised or not although it’s hard to imaging it snowing right now.

I’ll report more tomorrow.

It did snow over night!

Not a huge dump but a significant change in the weather and perhaps that’s the more important thing.

It’s hard to estimate the snow fall depth but probably about 40-50mm would be about right.

Also of interest is that the sky looks very much like it has more to offer which is certainly what the forecasts are saying.

More updates, as the day progresses…

Jan
