you've got skis after one trip? blimey, you are keen!

.....or a natural

or loaded

Keen – definitely have a ‘skier A attitude’ according to Pavel’s ‘classification’ … (nothing else would have persuaded me to do some of the bizarre exercises I was told to, which strangely enough, worked every time…..)
A natural – I really don’t think so (you’d have to ask my instructor, but unlikely…) :?:
Loaded – I wish…. )
Just figured it would be better to have my own kit and get used to it rather than hiring each time.

And PS, I think red runs and paralelling on your third day makes you a natural. On my second week skiing ever (having only been on 2 red runs in my first week and 'paralelling' and swearing through those two) I went for beginners lessons again the second time but thought I'd go for the 4week plus category to speed up my learning as I was the best in my first week classes - most of the second week group had been for six weeks and were awful - I gave up the lessons after 2 days, having paid for a weeks worth and skiied on my own.

My boyfriend (a natural skiier in every way) was not impressed with the results. Having given up on my lessons, I was still not advanced enough to do the blacks and the jumps with my boyfriend and mates so I 'taught' myself to really improve my technique that week.... on my own. I apparently picked up so many bad techniques teaching myself that I can only regret not getting 121 lessons straight away.

Anyway, I'm still skiing and I'm still trying to catch him up.. but that's all part of the fun.

Does your husband have a road bike and does he find cycling helps his skiing?

No, he does a lot of mountain biking which keeps him fit so I guess yes, it does help with the skiing. Not sure it’s quite so good for his general health though as lately he keeps taking chunks out of his legs (pedals, trees, I’ve given up asking!) and coming back covered in insect bites. Maybe a road bike would be safer! Still, whatever you enjoy I suppose….

Pants on fire

A bit confused here.
My skis are in the bag and were dry before I put them in. They are stored in the loft lying down i.e. horizontal.
Is this bad ?

Just be careful to preserve the camber. That is the curve that you can see when you lay the skis on a flat surface (brakes held up). The middle of the ski should be a raised a little, while the ends are in contact. If your skis in the attic are supported badly, the camber may be changed and the performce of the ski will suffer.

Attics may also get very hot in the summer, which may also help to distort the skis if they are supported badly.

because I'm so inclined .....
