There's no turning back for me then. With the exception of points 7 and 8 (I'm not at that stage [yet!]) I tick every box. Actually I've only got 4 ski magazines on the coffee table but can add another couple of points that might swing it for me:-

1. I have a "skiing" folder in my favourites which has 37 links in it. It would have been more like 50 up until yesterday but I deleted some Tignes-specific ones (where I've just returned from).

2. My husband either tuts, rolls his eyes or verbally tells me to give it a rest at least once a day.

3. I'm thinking I could justify some southern hemisphere skiing in place of a beach holiday if I make it my 40th birthday present in a couple of years.

Is it official?

It is official! Welcome to the club!

Just today I was installing a 4 boot heater system for my son, (another of those A skiers) and what does he show me on his ski wall?

A large poster of a child perhaps 3-4 years old fully equipment for skiing with goggles, gloves, ski boots etc but on beach with arms crossed! Father is in shorts making sand castle while lying down!

Child is looking down at father with a frown!

Title of poster?

ARE YOUR CHILDREN TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING!!!! In bold letters!

Haaa!!! The burden we must carry because of our passion!

That would've been me when I was a child. Unfortunately I didn't start skiing until I was 36, long flown from the nest and determined to get my boys skiing as early as possible.

I've got lots of time to make up for!

caron-a,

I love to "teach" very young (ie 4- since I do not really teach in the traditional formal way!

Children are so intuitive, so smart in using the "modeling" approach. Since they are constantly learning new things,,they "naturally" use the method of observation amd mimic!

The very best approach is the "Simone says approach" or the follow me approach!

Above all always make it short and fun!

Now back to our "men" issue.

Just finished mentionning how children "observe" how adults do things,,then mimic action. The important aspect in this is observing the subtle aspects" Adult men seem to have lost this sense of observation.

Let me illustrate!

If you watch a figure skater, a ballet dancer, a olympic diving champion all the actions seem so fluid, so graceful and EASY! ( done with a smile)!

Yet if you know anything about those activities,,you know how the person spends hours days on the smallest details such as finger position, toe position, initial take off platform etc,,,,

So it is with skiing.
That clean fluid skier that seems to soar with grace has practiced, and praticed and praticed more (always having fun doing so)! That is the essence of skiing; to be graceful and under control while doing the impossible!

Seems now male skiers feel just doing the impossible is enough!

Just watch this winter male skiers! You will in a second pick out the eagles soaring!

IceGhost,
I have a dream! No it is a secret project that perhaps will come true!
First let me tell you a true story and then you will see why my dream can come true!

About 3 years ago I was skiing in a major ski resort very close to the end of the ski season. I was telling the resort manager that the conditions were so great with a base of +2 meters in April that I was coming back with 20-30 ski instructors who just finished all their classes!

Sadly the manager told me that he was closing the center in the next week ,,not because there was no snow but because there would not be enough skiers on the hill to break even!

The very next day at work, I am at a meeting and I get a call from a CEO from an international company who has a major problem! He asks me to find a possible solution!

Every year this company meets in one location and plans the next year! Due to a "strike" in some hotels in my city ,,he can not use the major convention center!!!! He is desperate!

I call the ski center manager and ask, "how much to rent your ski center; base lodge, hotel, ski slopes, lifts etc,,,"? After a pause,,, $60,000!

Back to the CEO. What is your budget for the end of year meeting? Guess what IceGhost!

That company had the very best "end of year" meeting EVER!
Yes all the "business stuff was done" ( in record time) since the white slopes were calling! Free skis, free boots, free lessons ( from those instructors that would not have skied at the center)!

Several non-skiing executives were converted!

At least two ski instructors are now working for this company!

I know for sure that at least three marriages are based on that ski day/night!

I know for sure that the CEO got a great "motivated" team that looked forward to next year's meeting!

That ski manager,,well he got a great promotion for his "brilliant" move since that very company he hosted bought into the ski center!

Now for my dream!
Perhaps one day all these skiers that "meet" in this site can plan a ski holiday in a ski resort that is "nearly" closed! Then Mike,Tony, Gordie, Jan, IceGhost, Caron-a, Ellitsine et al can finally meet and ski together!
I know I can convince some ski companies to provide some sample skis! I know I can convince some ski resort to just close one day later! I know I can get some hotels to provide some low low end of season rates!!!!

Its nice to still have dreams!
