It's close, it could snow today, it feels like it here.
Over in Austria it's been snowing a lot though.

Thanks for all this advice! I am tied to Crans as we have just bought an apartment there. It wont be ready till Easter, so obviously in future I will be going earlier than April. Will there be ANYWHERE whithin driving distance from Crans where we will be able to ski at that time of year?

Sure, Saas Fee and Zermatt would be best from there, not a lot in the distance although it's got to be an hour or so. For Saas you can park within walking distance of the lift, for Zermatt it's parking at Täsch and the train from there.
Or, the funi from Crans to Sierre and then the train to Zermatt, not sure how long that takes.

I skied over there from Nendaz a couple of years ago. Friendly terrain, nothing particularly steep, lots of families about. If you particularly want to ski Veysonnaz, then you can buy a "Printze" Pass which covers Thyon, Veysonnaz, Nendaz and Mont Fort. For late season skiing in April, the resort White Weeks packages, appear to cease on 13th April, and the resort base is at 1300, though there is gondola access to higher slopes. I could find no hard information about their closing date.

agreed, Veysonnaz is out on a limb in the 4 valleys, by mid April I'm not sure if it'll be open and it doesn't offer good access to Verbier really which will be open and probably reasonable.

For those seeking high altitude and a 'get away from it all' location - how about Arolla? Located at the end of a valley past Evolene & Les Hauderes, and only reachable by car/bus you have some large open wide pistes, but the variety is not that great.
Could make a nice day excusrion from Verbier or Crans.

closed from April 13th though. Admittedly it'll be like Piccadilly circus above Arolla at that time but the lifts won't be running
