I've been to these two resorts more than any others and will keep going back, in fact I'm off to Val D'Isere in April. I can't think of many ski areas I'd rather visit.

Well have a great time Andy, That is why human nature so interesting we all like different things and that applys to ski resorts as well, -)

I think you might change your mind if you went to EK. What have you got against it if you havent been?
Absolutely, which is why I asked what you didn't like about them when you went there? I'm interested to know why you wouldn't go back.

I have never been to Val or Tignes and would not really want to …… but I think you also like St Anton which I feel is over rated ….. Opinions Andy Opinions thats what is all about.

I'm looking at going to Val D'Isere in Jan 2014 staying in La Daille.

Just wondered if anyone had any insights into the resort good runs, nice restaurants etc

thanks

My tip would be to watch out for the blue Santons run back into Val d'Isere. There's no way this should be classed as a blue run. It's got a half-pipe section, followed by a schuss which runs into a long flat piece where you have to pole into Val.

If you're a good skier then you will manage the technical difficulties of the actual piste OK (and it can be really good fun if you get there early before the crowds), but the trouble is that it can become littered with the 'corpses' of blue run skiers who find it much too hard for them, and trying to avoid all of them can be something of a nightmare

The black 'Face' run is pretty steep if you like that sort of thing :)

And if you go over to the Tignes side the black Sache run which goes down into Les Brevieres is a really long piste which can be quite challenging - it varies a lot according to how mogulled up it has become.

I think my favourite piste is the 'Double M' down from the Grande Motte glacier :)

The mountain restaurants tend to be very expensive, but the cafes down in the villages are generally much cheaper. You take your choice - you pay for the view!

But you're giving an opinion as if you've talking from experience. If you've never been there why slag it off as if you know what you are talking about?

I like St Anton for completely different reasons, the challenging skiing. I'd never recommend it as a family or mixed group resort. It's of limited appeal if you're staying on piste.
Espace Killy I'd recommend to anyone, from complete beginner to expert.

It's such a shame, Santons is a fantastic run, spoiled by the 'corpses' of blue run skiers. If it was properly graded as a red it would be so much better.

Mind you, judging by the number of blue run skiers that think they can ski the Face, maybe not.

Interesting thread ! I did a season in EK 16 years ago and havent and certainly wouldnt rush back. Over rated in my view. But thats just my opinion. Did a season (one of a few) in 3V nearly 20 years ago, havent been back but would absolutely love to go back. Never been to ADH to ski, although spent 3 days there once in winter. Have read resort reviews on the least likely place you'd go back to and ADH rated highly. Funny what we all look for in a ski resort.
