I expect he/she will come up with something we all wish we did'nt have to wear

Wickers ..please get your english correct. He/she does not start with a capital letter as it is a personal pronoun as opposed to a proper noun, unless it begins a sentence as here! )

Ian,
As far as I know Admin is male and the J2Ski news lady is female. But I don't know what all the fuss about capitals is about. I have a copy of Fowler's English somewhere - I will dig it out and have a look for you

I don't see why it should be difficult to organize a group J2Ski ski holiday.

If we used an agent that allowed everyone to book and pay separately under the group booking then we wouldn't have to worry about people dropping out or not paying or anything.

And we could use a majority vote system to work out where we were going and how much we were going to pay etc.

So all we'd have to do would be to design the questionnaire and post it up, sort out the answers, declare what the majority vote was, find out how many people wanted to go to wherever it was, find accommodation to suit the majority vote, make the open group booking, and let people get on and book.

We could pick a selection of major resorts in, say, Italy, France, Austria and Switzerland to choose from.

And offer a price range of, say, under £600, £600 - £800, £800 - £1000 for accomodation and transfers.

Offer the choice of self-catering or chalet.

And see how many people would agree to the first week in January after the schools go back as the cheapest week to go. This would mean of course that those who teach etc. wouldn't be able to go, which is a shame, but I would expect the majority to opt for the cheaper date.

As often happens, you've totally missed the point.
It would be possible to arrange it through a company who allows people to book and pay themselves online, of course.
But the point is not whether it could be done, but who would be prepared to commit to it.

Too many variables for starters:

1. Where to go needs to be agreed or decided
2. When to go -peak time or off season?
3. Kids welcome or not?
4. Flying, train, self drive?
5. Kind of accommodation - self catered, chalet, catered, hotel?
blah blah blah

All of the considerations you give to your own holiday need to be given to everyone else. Thats why it will never get off the ground, as certain people would say "yeah I'm in" and then if it ever got as far as setting a date, some/many of them wouldn't be able to make it in the end.

Then you actually have to get people to commit to paying, and if one person is group leader, they are left with the responsibility for paying for anyone who books and who subsequently pulls out or decides not to pay. Its bad enough with close friends, but with a bunch of strangers....???

Therefore, if you seriously want to get something like this off the ground, one person needs to stand up as organiser and run with it, make enquiries, and suggest basically a holiday which people then say yes or no to. The organiser chooses a resort and a date and some accommodation and puts it forward, and then whoever commits to it IN WRITING books it themselves and pays for it themselves online.

However, one massive thing here, and that is that almost everybody doesn't know anyone else personally and therefore its easy to say "yes I am up for this" from behind a computer keyboard, but when it comes to it, you'll find it a lot harder to actually make the commitment, as will others.
Plus theres the weirdo factor to consider. Picture the scene:

"Darling, I've just booked us a ski holiday to XXXX for next season"

"Wonderful sweetheart, tell me all about it....."

"Well its just you and me darling.......and 28 people I've never met from an internet chat forum...."

"I'm busy that week sweetheart......"

Ally, you seem to be the one who keeps banging on about a group trip. Man up and organise it if you're that keen; you seem to have plenty of time to research into how Airlines were formed etc etc. If not perhaps its time to finally put this to bed and never mention it again?
