Seen a few ski teachers with a pair of Crocs in their packs. Great if you have a yomp to the lift, saves the boot soles.

Especially if you have paid to have a pair of boots fitted. Doesn't take too much wear to start canting the heel, and cat tracks are a pain to use for more than short distances.
because I'm so inclined .....

Going a bit wibbly here....

....so back on thread:

What have I learned from this years skiing? Here's my top 10. I am sure there are probably plenty more when you think hard but here goes:

1. That I need to so something about my arm position. I stopped rotating my upper body years ago but it seems my arms are still not aesthetically pleasing.

2. That I hate not having 3 trips, only had the 2.

3. That you can and will get a good deal if you sit tight and wait until the last minute.

4. To have faith in the snow coming at some stage. No good panicking early season if it hasn't fallen, only to find record falls for 60 years.

5. That having a custom insole in my left boot has not amended the slight roll my left boot makes, wanting to edge on the inside of the left ski slightly. Canting is my next issue to look at.

6. That I don't need any more ski gear....which doesn't stop me wanting any of course....

7. That some people just don't "get it" at all, no matter what.

8. Austrian Airlines are really good.

9. Flybe are a lot better than I anticipated.

10. Not to ski off piste with anyone's partner if they are not present themselves.

Yes I've been told off for this. As was the lady in question. Lesson learned.

Best not to have preconceived ideas as to what the fix might be. It may just take a small alteration to the shell to get things lined up. I would avoid canting if possible.

Interesting. I have been getting totally conflicting advice on this. I spoke to someone out in Austria, first thing they said was get your canting looked at.
Over here, girl in 2 seasons said not to touch canting at all and go for custom insole - am I being sceptical seeing as that earns them money?
Yesterday another piece of advice was to have canting looked at whilst in my boots.
Today you tell me to avoid looking at canting.

For me its simple. My left foot rolls inside slightly, so that when I ski the left ski wants to edge when running flat. I was told my left arch is high and a footbed would address this, but last week nothing was any different. Boots felt fine, but no difference - ski still wanted to edge when running flat. My guess is its the alignment of my legs/knees in which case I need to look at the complete set up of my boots, and 50% of the advice is to look at the canting.

Confused now.

That your own skis are better than hired ones! (Bought own skis in January and my skiing improved dramatically)

I've owned for 6 years now, and past 3 seasons skied on what I feel are my perfect skis. Knowing what they can do enables you to be able to develop and push yourself, but ONLY if you're boots are right. Which I thought mine were!!!
