This arguement is completely irrelevant with relation to helmets.
Its the law to wear a seat belt.

Except when it isn't :D

Bandit .... just saw the picture of the rock and the helmet! I'm very surprised Giro didn't reply. Thought they had a "replacement for free" program once a crash was encountered.

Here is a CBC article on the helmet law here:

The Giro program may only apply in the US, though I don't know any more specific details about what happened.

So is your new Helmet law only applied in lift controlled areas (in bounds)?

11 injuries in 12 years is not a very high risk. Any mathematicians here can work out the 60% reduction into people figures?

The Giro program applies in Canada as well .... at least this was used as a selling point when I bought our helmets.

All we have are lift controlled areas... There are three small hills in Nova Scotia. Talking with the owner of one of them, he told me the law will be enforced simply by not permitting anyone without a helmet on the lifts. I don't know if the Ski Patrol will become policemen or not --and enforce the law. There is one patroller who would likely volunteer for the job however.

It just strikes me that our government is trying to bubble wrap us with the excuse that the "safety" laws will reduce health care costs. I have no problem with wearing helmets ... mine is with the law makers. (You should see our lawmakers!) And before any law was even considered, helmets are being worn by about 95% of the skiers and probably 99% of boarders.

I wear a helmet every time. It's just no bother, and certainly no hinderance.
