We dont go off piste as such but go off walking somewhere with boards strapped to backs and we invariably find somewhere to have a bit of a laugh. Usually quite deep snow, down series of hills but it just does not work we usually just end up sinking. Once hubby sank so deep still attached had to sort of dig out around him so he could get out. I was no help just laughing so much I was useless.
Think of powder as water. Like a surfer on a wave, wave breaks down - end of ride. On a board, you really have to spot your line and if there is a flat spot, be sure you will have the speed to carry you over it. The one thing you can do easily on a snowboard is to move your bindings back on powder days. This allows you more control, as your body can remain in a nuetral/well balanced stance.
