did you find it hard to learn the second one one, i dont know if you ski'd o boarded first. in yoiur opinion which one do you prefer
RoseR wrote:I ski, board and xcountry but only because it gives me more flexibility for snow conditions. I hate boarding on ice I spend half my life on my butt. If my feet are aching from ski boots then my boarding boots are softer and ease my aching feet. If my knees are aching from skiing then I board. If we want some peace and quiet and see some wild life then we cross country ski. We just like the freedom to get up and do whatever takes our fancy that day.

Yes, a very nice outlook Rose

I'm giving boarding a go a week on Sunday - going with the 'Learn to' package!

Thought I might as well find out which I prefer before buying either skis or board.

Will report back on how I get on!

We learnt to board first on our first ever winter holiday, then when we went to Seefeld for the first time, we learnt to Xcountry, enjoyed it and then progressed to downhill. Love all three could'nt have a favourite really. Probably a better boarder then skier but working on it. X country is quite hard work, boarding is more fun, skiing more serious.

Again, you have that advantage in being able to pick good conditions when you want to try it. I remember some of my early days on a board, you could have used ice skates more easily [that was befor shaped skis made skiing fun ]. Wrist guards are always a good precaution whatever the conditions, but on a soft snow day, I wouldn't worry about hip/butt pads or knee pads.

wouldnt mind trying xcountry, i saw them going up some very steep inclines at hopfgarten and when i got back to the hotel and asked the owner how it worked i thought he was joking how they make the skis, have you tried the snow shoes that looks good as well,

trencher you are a wealth of knowledge, seems to be good dumps of snow in n at mo so might be brave

Did a lot of snow shoeing this year, some just local to our cabin but some guided tours on the fells, really lovely. X country was excellent this year as loads of tracks close to cabin you could go out in the morning and be back at cabin for a warm up and a spot of lunch.
