definitely opt for Ischgl. it may be less busy in mid March.

Ischgl is a place that you would surely never regret you have chosen. Mayrhofen is quite boring and not only in comparison with Ischgl... regarding everything - pistes, heights, views, service etc, and of course apre ski. Do not even hesitate. Even if it costs a bit more.. it is definitely worth it.

Ischgl is renowned for its wild pares. Mayrhofen is however a very nice town with lots going on, and a massive 600km of pistes in the Ziller Valley. I would hardly call it boring. But it can get very busy at peak times on and off the mountain from the Penken gondola, you need to be careful where and when you go up and down. Its a great place though, I had a number of great skiing weeks there.

I would also like to ski Ischgl as well though.
