What about the reduction for age, Ian? :)

When I get old Dave my legs will break anyway, so I'll just roll down the piste and tape them back on with some of that gaffer tape

My friend has his bindings set at 11. But he's what we call a "better skier on a mountain" and will jump off anything there is in sight.

Trencher wrote:For someone of your size and experience Ally, seven is quite a high setting. Skis don't normally come off without a substantial blow from a rut. I would suspect that something else was involved, like the forward pressure was set too low, or there was some snow packed in somewhere.

Thanks Trencher :D

I'm pretty sure I didn't whack the ski in a rut or anything. They'd pisted it and it was nice and smooth, which is why I was going reasonably fast.

And there wasn't any snow stuck in the binding or on my boot - I know because the snow was all hard and icy and I'd very carefully checked my bindings and boots.

Does the type of ski make any difference? They were Rossignol Zenith Z76, 170's - mens skis again, I know, I'm getting used to it now

There is no need to slacken the bindings of for storage. Tyrolia (the largest manufacturer) recommends that you close the bindings for long term storage:

The best sources of information on binding settings etc. are the manufacturer's technical manuals, see pages 33-37 http://store.ornellosport.com/ManualeAttacchiRossi1011.pdf

AllyG, assuming you classify yourself as a level 2 skier, a DIN setting of 7 would indicate that you weigh 79-94kg, are between 5' 11" and 6' 4" tall and ski in a boot with a sole length of 311-330mm. If that's the case I wouldn't want to meet you on a dark night!
