Hi, can anyone tell me of a really pretty Village for Christmas festivities & novice skiing in Europe?

No doubt there will be differing views but for me its Lech in Austria. Have a look at Igluski's top 10 most picturesque ski resorts. Of Lech it says:

Undoubtedly one of the most stunning resorts to be seen ( and seen in!) in Europe is Lech. Just over the valley from its more rascal-like neighbour St Anton, Lech enjoys a more serene, sophisticated status, basking in the light of its stunning panoramic views. Access to the impressive Arlberg ski circus is at your doorstep!

Also it also depends on your budget, and what "festivities" mean..... Lech is a great place for a family Christmas but you can always nip round to St Anton for mad apre ski.. Lech (and the Arlberg in general) is pretty snow sure for later half of December.

Got to be Megève. Lot of gentle skiing, tree-lined trails, postcard views of Mot Blanc range, pedestrian shopping area and even a horse-driven ski lift and taxis.
