Hey guys first time on J2SKI

My girlfriend and I are heading to Chamonix, Zermatt and Ischgl next year. I was wondering if anyone had some good hostel suggestions with private rooms and a cool atmosphere. Close to the slopes and town would be great.

Cheers

There's quite a lot of hostel type accommodation in Chamonix but, not many places have double rooms La Vagabond is central but like most of the accommodation it's a long way from the lifts. There is also a youth hostel with double rooms http://www.auberge-chamonix.com/en but, it's some distance from the center (2.5km) they have some very good deals 6 days half board inc. lift pass in high season for €399. The UCPA has hostels in Chamonix and Argentiere but I don't think they have double rooms.

There is also a youth hostel in Zermatt with double rooms http://www.youthhostel.ch/en/hostels/zermatt it's about 10mins walk from the center and the nearest lift. There is also the Matterhorn hostel which is nearer to the lifts but, the beds are uncomfortable and you only get an ex Swiss army blanket to sleep under.

Realistically you are going to have to take a bus to skiing anyway so I would not base hotel decision on proximity to ski lift.

Vagabond is <5min walk from nearest stop.

Only ever heard of good things about UPCA.

Reasonable but nice hotels are hotel le Chamonix and Le Cretes Blanches.

We stayed in a hostel in Chamonix a few years ago. It was outside the town but the bus stop was right next to it. I think the name was Hi Hostel. 25 euros pp/pn with breakfast and dinner included, though we stayed in a room for 4. They probably have double rooms, but you should check with them in advance and book accordingly - we made the reservation on a day of arrival. In Zermatt you can try Bahnhof Hotel. It's not a hostel (though they also have dorm-type rooms) but it's fairly cheap, they provide kitchen facilities if you want to self-cater and it's located next to the main railway station.

"La Croix Blanche" is in the centre of the town, cheap but every thing is old in the hotel, did not have any problem though.
