Hi all, hope you are enjoying your hibernation.
I know most of you are in hibernation mode but for those of you that have been popping in over the warm months may I ask if anyone has spotted any December deals floating around?
It is this time of year that the TO's start tempting, it worked for me in 2008 & 2009 but not foundn offer in June since ( maybe looking in the wrong place)
If anyone has seen anything let me know or inbox me.
Many thanks
TP

It is never possible to know if you have actually secured a "deal", until after the event. I have often thought that it would be an interesting J2 exercise to spreadsheet a couple of resorts for say 3/4 Euro countries, checking the main TOs every week throughout the season. Is there a trend? being an engineer, I like to look at data.
Re DIY, early booking on flights and car hire carries the lowest cost. I have not seen a trend in DIY accommodation costs. I tend to book accommodation early on DIY.
So for my main January trip, I booked flights and accommodation for next season in April.
Flights were free, using points from my credit card.
Accommodation is €23 (£18.40) per night each, in an apartment
Transport costs could be €100, but we will elect to pay a bit more to cover car hire, since we plan to go for a large area ski pass.
A big plus on DIY, in my view, is that an evening meal tends to be a €10/12 main course. I don't like the offer of 3/4 courses with HB, you feel obliged to eat them because they are paid for.

I agree Dave, the TO's seem to offer "deals" sporadically but as you say they offer deals early because of flight prices.
Never done a DIY, contemplated many many times but Mrs P always found "a deal" so ended up booking it.in 2008 we went to Banff for 8 days Hotel and flights for just £299, this was in on last minute.com, however, the TO was inghams, that was advertised in June, hence looking now.
have a great weekend

Heck, Tony, if your wife ever gets fed up with you, tell her to give me a call! I will do a quickie divorce. (I have my wife's permission to say that!)
Banff for £299! Fantastic! Better than 99.9% of Euro offers.

:D :D incredibly inghams offered a very similar deal in June 2009 but was for 10 nights and that was £399 each inc flights.
Also both holidays were over Christmas too. Two great ski hol bargains , never to be seen again .
Must admit it was freezing, Christmas 2009 it was -37 out there ouch !

Lets remember that 2008 was the dawn of the recession, so companies were cutting their losses it didn't matter to not make so much of a profit if you didn't lose millions attempting to flog a dead horse to people with either not enough disposable income to afford a full price ski package or no desire to eat horse meat that year!
Not so much of a contracting market these days so prices aren't rock bottom any more - saying that you're more likely to get a good deal with a small company and go DIY Catered or self catered IMO anyway
