Just back from Ischgl. A great ski area and great après-ski. A little bit pricey but Austrian standards but certainly no worse than St Anton and still way cheaper than France or Switzerland.
However, I was really struck by the absence of English speakers - at least as their native tongue .
I am at a loss to understand this. I would reckon it ticks an awful lot of boxes for a lot of people and would have expected to see far more in the resort.
Any thoughts on why this might be?
Ischgl - why so few Brits/Irish?

That was uncalled for OA :)
Its somewhere I have often considered but been put off by A) the high prices of package holidays to go and B) the reports of big groups of German and Dutch heavy drinking gangs on and off the slopes. Maybe others have read similar reports or just can't afford to go.
The ski area however looks great, perfect for someone like me who likes to bomb around on not too easy runs, and the run down to Samnaum is supposed to be amazing.
The middle of March is not 'fairly late in the season' - it's the very best part of the season to go in my view!!
Very tempted by Ischgl and thanks for the detailed and interesting report on the other thread.

We were there in Feb and there were loads of Brits. We stayed in Galtur (10 mins bus ride up the valley) where the hotels are much cheaper. We found Ischgl to be a fantastic ski area, but expensive. Would go back though (and stay in Galtur again) as we really enjoyed it. Crystal do packages to Ischgl and Galtur which are pretty reasonable and in our experience cheaper than booking it yourself as transfers etc are included.
I can only assume lack of Brits was due to being fairly late in season. Strange though as it's a high resort, so not like there was going to be a problem with snow. There are some amazing runs, but some areas are very prone to wind conditions which can close lifts and thus close many runs.
Beginners beware of the home runs though, they are steep and in many other resorts would maybe be classed as Black.

Skied: On snow, On water, On mud, On slush, On ice. Oh, and on a few dry slopes.
