Ive seen a good deal for first week of Easter holidays to Alpe D' Huez. I have skied extensively in France over many years but never to ADH. I know many of you have from reading posts etc. Am I pushing my luck booking now for a resort which seems predominately South facing. I dont mind some slush, seems a good trade off for some sun (i usually ski at Xmas or Jan). Any comments welcome. Cheers.

We are going at easter this year for the fourth year running. Yes last year was exceptional in terms of snowfall (we had 12" powder on many pistes)but each year, including the year we were bumped from Morrillon due to early closure of the lifts,it snowed in ADH mid week.
The glacier at 3000m is a big influence to the weather (IMHO) in that region. There's plenty of NSEW facing slopes, so if the signal is bare, then Dome, or Vaujany, or Poutran are just as good. But as with Easter Skiing, the mid morning sessions are the best and dont expect to get good skiing below 2000m in the late afternoons. If you need to, the glacier is reachable from ADH in easy gondolas.

I think that's key TBH; if you're happy to ski a bit of "Spring" snow then ADH is as good a place as any (and a lot better than many!).

Like many here, I'm happiest in the fluffy stuff but I enjoy Spring skiing too; going from boiler plate to slush in the course of a day is a great test of technique. If it's too warm you can finish early and sit in the sun with a beer...

If you get Spring skiing, your ski season gets much longer. 8)

I must just set the record straight having re-read your comment Adam about south facing slope. the year we were bumped, we stayed in Oz en Oisans which is down the north ish facing side, Vaujany faces east, and there was plenty of skiable snow on piste, albeit the pistes were shrinking rapidly. So we took a simple bubble up to 2100m ADH where it was a bit muddy to say the least, and the home run back into AHD (Jeux) was not really an option. But this didnt curtail our activity at all, as you just get the 2eme troncon bubble up to 2700, then ski all the way back down to Oz or Vaujany. The famous snowpark and all the green beginner runs were closed at 2100m - but we werent bothered about these. If you needed easy blues, then the blue from 2700 down to 2100 ADH (couloir) was pretty good or there was always the runs over at Vaujany. If you leave it late you may get a cracking deal, but we are a group of 12 and like to get something on the calendar!!
Good Luck
