Just back from Mayrhofen. Great trip but really pleased we also took in Zell am Ziller and Kaltenbach via the train with our ski passes. Lovely areas and the pistes were in kept in great nick.
Personally wouldn't loose any sleep if I never see the Penken gondola queues again, back down in particular, yes we went up early and a lot of the Mayrhofen pistes were distinctly unbashed.
Mayrhofen & about.

Tony - apart from the queues, what else is wrong with Mayrhofen which you think would make it unsuitable for the J2Ski group holiday?
Totally agree, some major investment is long overdue. The Penken lift is totally inadequate. Capacity needs to be doubled if not trebled. We went during a quiet week, it must be horrific at peak times.
Such a shame as the area is really good.
Heres the thing, there arent queues if you time it right. BUt you wouldnt like it for your group, look elsewhere.

Thanks very much for letting us know about the Penken queues. We had been considering Mayrhofen for the J2Ski group holiday, but the thought of those queues put us off!
And I'm glad you had a good holiday in spite of the queues :)

You don't have to experience the queues if you're smart enough. You get on the lift up at 8.15 and either ski down late in the day to lanersbach from Rastkogel or take the Horberg gondola down. If you're lucky and the snows great you can ski off piste down both sides right to the bottom.
Ally, from what I know of you and many of your group, mayrhofen is definitely not the place for you,
