So, I was at Edinburgh Airport, waiting for the plane to Munich for my January solo visit, when who turned up but my two sons. They had booked three months ago, and the whole family kept the secret. They shared my usual Bichlwirt birthday, and well, they managed a few videos.
Bear in mind, these are all taken in the rough snow of mid-Jan.
So ~ a bit of a posing Dave Mac vid, then a duo with my younger son, then, hmm, my eldest son videoing my younger son ~ how did I manage to raise such a tow rag? Don't miss the early comments.....
The posy one:

The "where did it all go wrong, when I was raising my son"?

That was really nice, your sons turning up like that to ski with you on your birthday :)
And it looks like you all had a great time as well :)

Blimey Dave; fancy them knowing you liked Niederau ;)
Nice one; I was there a couple of weeks ago but looks like you've had a bit better snow than we did. Must say, I really liked Alpbach (tried the new gondola; was super, I thought).

That's why I didn't spot you 2 weeks ago- you were going too fast lol. What a nice surprise for you. We had a great week there- always feels like coming home. Like Billip loved the new run down from Auffach to Alpbach and the runs over there. Also got to Going- lovely place! Cant wait until next year.

The run from Auffach to Alpbach is, perhaps, the most interesting of the marked runs in the SkiJuwel area. I loved it....

Nice videos Dave. What a lovely surprise for you. Is that a helmet I see on your head this season?
I did spot a lot of grass and stones sticking through the piste, so I am assuming despite the recent snow that coverage in that area remains quite poor, which really is bad luck for January.

Thank for the kind thought, Snowlily, but we were not skiing fast. I purposefully keep it to a cruise when skiing with my sons, they are so competitive. If I did put the afterburner on, they would both respond. If anything were to happen, I would find some difficulties explaining things to my frau....
I agree the Auffach to Alpbach run is pleasant, but I cannot get past the three main runs in Niederau, two of which are FIS downhill race courses. Both Martin and Graham Bell have raced here.
My personal run of interest is from Niederau to Oberau, passing through woods and farms.
Anyway, today, the conditions were really good, lots of non-stop 3 minute runs from top to bottom, and we expect tomorrow to be even better.
Schiheil!
