Can anyone offer any advice on
a. good resorts in France for above WITH
b. somewhere easy to park up and stay in a VW T5 for free?

from 27th Dec to 2nd Jan?

How easy it is to camp for a week in a lil VW T5 in the village of Les Deux Alps(it has a heater and I've done it several times before) ? I have stayed in standard carparks for a week in La Tania and in Tignes and never had any problems. Having driven up to Val d'Isere I couldn't see anywhere I could have stayed there and having never been to Le Deux Alps before, I wondered what people think? Other resort I was considering was La Plagne?

Lots of parking in L2A for free but didn't see any hook up points and i found this

You could check out Montgenevre. I remember seeing a big van park there.

Hi les2a had stopped vans staying a couple of years back but I don't know what the situation is now. The aire is still there but summer only I think. The la plagne aire is now much smaller than the link shows. Alpe d' hues is no longer free but is a good facility. Check out motorhomeski.com too.

There are always loads of motor homes in Alpe D'Huez.

Montgenevre has a motorhome park with hookups on the edge of the village. Very popular with the Italians at the weekend.
