Having never been to Tignes i was just wondering if the lake is fenced off during the ski season or is it crossed by skiers or used for ice sports and the like?

Not sure about now but you used to be able to go ice-diving through specially cut holes... with the pre-requisite of being either insane or a polar bear, obviously.

Le Lac - up in the village and the one you can see on webcams - is unfenced. There is a track for walking and cross country around it.
I have never seen anything other than a few footprints near the edge, nor heard of anything "allowed" on the ice in the winter.

Not certain - but isn't the ice diving down on Lac de Chevreuil? This is the big lake lower down and is the reservoir at the head of the Isere river. The one you cross on the road up and above Tignes Les Brevieres.

I've never seen it fenced off - but have never seen anyone on it either

Like Admin I think its used for ice diving (not the reservoir OA in my recollection)

We stayed at the riders lodge crystal in January sits on the side of the lake there's a path runs round the side no fence but the snow was really 2-3 foot around edge and flat so not fun to fall in ? The ice diving was still there but looked insane especially at -14 ??? A small plane did land on the lake one day ! Hope this helps ???

A mate has dived it, Evolution 2 were offering it back then, full dry suit etc. He said it was well worth it, some amazing structure to ice.

I walked from one side to the next and back once or twice. Take sunglasses if you do...the glare off the snow & ice is blinding! Ice divers were playing there too.
