Hello all. I'd be really grateful for some help. We're a family of six adults (ages 34 to 70) and two little ones (ages 4 and 6) looking for a catered chalet with the following spec (for around March 2014):

Minimum 5 bedrooms, preferably 5 doubles.

All bedrooms above the living area so the two kids (they'll be 4 and 6 years) can go to bed upstairs and we'll know they are secure.

Car-free resort if poss - maybe places like Saas-fee, Avoriaz, Bettmeralp, Braunwald, Mürren, Riederalp, Rigi, Stoos, Wengen, Murren? (i.e. a pretty place for non-skiing grandparents who will be 68 and 70 years).

Must be high with guaranteed snow.

Childrens slopes nearby - no massive hikes.

Away from bars and clubs.

A reasonable range of skiing.

Very grateful for any recommendations/pointers.

Many thanks.

I don't think there are any catered chalet holidays on offer in Bettmeralp, Braunwald, Riederalp, Rigi, or Stoos. It will probably be difficult to find the type of accommodation you're looking for in Grindelwald, Mürren, Wengen and Saas-fee and if you want a pretty place Avoriaz is defiantly out.

It shouldn't be a problem to find a suitable chalet in Zermatt and there will be plenty for the non-skiing grandparents to do. Try http://www.mountainexposure.com/ and http://www.oxfordski.com/

Murren is a good choice and car free although no chalets that I saw. Plenty of nice apartments and hotels though. For a chalet you could stay 5 minutes away by cable car in Gimmelwald. Very picturesque little village - literally looks like a post card. Another bonus is that you get to sledge all the way down from Murren to gimmelwald - especially fun at night!

If you can get it the Chalet Alpage in Grimentz is beautiful, well furnished and right next to the lifts. The Chalet itself is not in the car free area of Grimentz, but the town centre is and it's only about 2-3mins walk away. I spent 5 days there in the new year and was very highly impressed. The Chalet can accommodate 8 very comfortably.

Another area is Bettmeralp. Car free, stunning scenery and the Chalet we stayed in accommodates 6 easily in a quiet location. I'd have no problem recommending either. If interested I can get the name of the chalet in Bettmeralp, I can't remember it off the top of my head.

Hi Fourtoseventy,
We also found Griments to be the ideal resort for families. They have a creche up the mountain and next to the main restaurant so it is great to check on the little ones.
We really like Chalet La Coha, has just been done up and it is right in the middle of everything so you don't need a car. look it up it is www.chaletgrimentz.com
