I am a beginner. I have found it very difficult to parallel ski. I can't seem to bring my skis together and am constantly snow ploughing. I am a bit afraid of the speed and start to panic. Any tips/ideas please? I will definitely persevere as I love skiing.

Yes, take lessons.
But I feel your pain. I also panic when I think I'm going too fast. Just persevere. Trust me, your confidence will increase with practice and lessons.

Thank you - you have all brought a smile to my face. I feel more confident and will certainly take lessons next time. I love being in the mountains and skiing so much that I didn't want to feel that I would never be capable especially when I compare myself to my 17 year old son who took to it in one day and was bombing down the mountains leaving me on the green for three days. There is hope - I won't give up !!!!

Lessons. When you ski parallel it's very easy to control your speed. Also get out of this backseat and keep your feet under your bum, then you can bring your skis in any position. Skiing is very counter-intuitive so it's not the best idea to learn without proper instruction.
