hey guys,

we are Irish and staying in Ax les thermes on 17th - 24th Feb.

There are 5 adults and 5 kids skiing. We have either very little or no experience at all.

We are about to contact ESF to book Ski school when someone said we would be better getting two hours of skiing instructors for the two groups (adults and kids) per day. Does that make sense to others or would the Ski schools be a lot more economical.

Thanks for any responses in advance

Are you wondering whether to book private lessons for your group or whether to join group lessons in resort?
If you enjoy meeting new people and like the group atmosphere then the latter might suit you.
It would be cheaper and you might be split into children/ adult groups.

On the downside the group might be large ( this happened to someone I know recently in France, too large a group to learn)
Most people would recommend private lessons if you really want to get on.

Thanks

I think we are probably going to book a private instructor for the five adults for 2 hours and the kids the same as the costs are similar to booking into ski school for 6 days

Is that 2 hours total learning? Or 2 hours a day?
In my opinion you need to be learning all week as a beginner.

Thanks Bryan

We have 2 babies under 2 years old and the mother in law is coming to mind them back at the house whilst we ski - god bless her :-) . So the plan was to get a lesson for 2 hours each morning from 9 to 11, nip home from 11.00 to 13.00 to get kids fed and watered and then go back out from 13.00 to 16.00 to practice on our own what we had learnt that morning. so that would give us 12 hours tuition over the six days

booking ski instructors for afternoon also would crank the cost up too far for me I think

but I'm grateful for any advice

Sounds good!
By all week I meant each day, you will enjoy your practising in the afternoon.
Have a great time!
