I went skiing earlier this year for the first time in years and years...I really want to go again this season but have no one to go with. Is skiing alone too sad? :!:

Nooooo !! Not at all, you can go on single ski holidays, meet people you have something in common with and enjoy what you enjoy you are not sad you just get it and you ski yay !!!!!!

I go on my own sometimes, don't forget people on skiing hols tend to be there for skiing so you will instantly have something in common.

Biggest prob is the single room supplement issue. But there are usually deals outside of the main holiday (schools) periods.

What I do is phone one of the travel agents and ask who has deals with no single supplement going. (I use ski solutions but there are others).

If you want some company around then how about a big chalet hotel - not as risky to my miind as a small chalet but shares the camaraderie which you wouldn't get in a formal hotel.

Go for it !!

I normally have 2/3 weeks solo every January.
a) it is a better class of company! :-)
b) because I go back to the same resort, I have heaps of people to ski with, both locals, and regular visitors.
c) I get to meet and ski with J2skiers every year.
d) I can ski at my pace.
e) I can spend my mountain coffee time drawing, without feeling unsocialble.
f) I do not have to feel any responsibility for a group.
g) When I get in at night, I can sit on the balcony and paint, without reference to the needs of anyone else.

Selfish? Maybe. But I make up for it later in the season.

If you don't mind sharing a room with strangers, some chalets put single travellers (of the same sex I mean!) in shared rooms so that they don't have to pay the single supplement.

This is basically what we did on our group ski holiday, but we did have plenty of time to find out about each other before we got there :D

I don't like to ski on my own, but there are ways around it - like going somewhere where they do ski hosting, or doing group lessons, or joining a group of people before you go.

Watterski: Loads of people ski on their own, and to be honest, most other skiers are so focussed on what they themselves are doing, not what you are doing or who you are doing it with, that it won't be an issue !
