Me and a couple of friends were hoping to go skiing in March. We have never been before and were wondering where a good location which is affortable and suitable for absolute beginners?

Also, what is the cheapest way around renting equipment and ski lifts?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi, welcome to the world of skiing!

Crystal do a good beginners package http://www.crystalski.co.uk/beginner-ski-holidays/ this should tell you everything you need to know.

Do you have any preferences regarding country, apres ski, non ski activities etc?

Most of the big tour operators do beginners packages - i.e. flights, accommodation, ski school, equipment hire. From personal visits out of all the places I have skied in Europe, I would recommend Westendorf in Austria - the nursery slopes are in the village, the ski school is very good and if you want to go higher up, you get to the top via the Alpenrose gondola (that is what looks like a glass cabin - not a Venetian boat!) and take in the view from there - that said at the top there are a few easy runs for beginners - so you get a variety rather than being stuck down in the village - and if you are too scared you take the gondola safely back down again. Very pretty village and lots of Brits go there to learn. Happy skiing - hope you won't regret it!!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

Try Andorra Pas de la Casa / Soldeu, huge area, great value, best schools in Europe, not too challenging, great apres ski..... and last 3 years March has had excellent snow.

Marnick- you will love it! We've been going for years, Stayed at the Austria last year- very nice food and very closse to the beginners area. Its perfect for beginners and the ski school has a very good reputation. We tend to ski only one daythere. and then go off to the ski welt now Wish i was going- had to cancel last minute this year. Enjoy!
