Friends have suggested a trip in 2nd/3rd week of January but we know nothing about this area. Has anyone skied here and can offer any pros/cons/general thoughts please?

Thanks Snapzzz - hadn't spotted that! Clearly this will decide whether we go or not!

Hopefully Tony will be along shortly to provide a full report of why he is going there :D

Hello

Well, it's an area I've been considering for a few years, and having researched it and found a hotel with a,axing reviews which happens to be next to the main gondola station, I decided to give it a go.

It's not the largest marked ski area at 180km alleged, although only 130km is directly lift linked. But it's 3 valleys stretch further across than val thorens to that expensive place full of Russians, and reportedly there are tons of opportunities for off piste and itinerary routes so actually lots to go at.

Plus it's off the beaten track as far as mainstream uk tourists go with only a handful of places with crystal or inghams, and I am interested in a ski area which is virtually empty Monday to Friday with no lift queues.

Add to that high altitude so guaranteed skiing, cheap food and drink (1.5 euros on the slopes for coffee, 10 euros for a main meal and drink.....), and no French people pushing in. I think it looks like a winner but we will only find out by giving it a go.

5 years ago I was looking at serre chevalier in a similar way, lesser known ad rustic, and loved it.

I am surprised Snapzzz said he didn't think it was my sort of place. It's everything I'm looking for.

But don't take my opinion as any good -)

Many thanks for this Tony and you have probably summed up why our friends have suggested it.
