Advice on trois valley skiing

We need advice on which of the three locations to chose in les tois valleys. We are two families with two kids of 7 years old. We wish to rent a chalet or apartment where we can do our own cooking for b'fast and dinner. We have three options: Courcheval, val thorens and les menuires. I am inclined for les menuires but would certainly take any advice into consideration. Which spot is the best since we will have a car? Thank you

I would agree with you on Les Menuires for families. Courcheval is very upmarket and can be extremely expensive, admittedly you could look at the lower resorts, but it is still going to be quite dear. VT is OK, but again expensive and more aimed at the younger market, so very busy in the evenings.

Not actually stayed at Les Men, but I think it would be where I would head with children. Also being lower down, it should be easier for you to get about should you decide to drive off to another ski area for the day.

I'd agree with that....stock up at the supermarket before you get there ..the local stores aren't cheap

Thank you so much.. I really appreciated. We did the same thing in Zell am See last year. had a car rented, stayed in an apartment and did the cooking our selves. It was great. So i am glad that we can do the same in Les menuires. We dont really go our in the evenings. Thank you again and enjoy your next ski holiday too

i took my kids snowboarding to the 3 valleys earlier this year, they are 13 and 17. we stayed in brides les bains which is a 30 min gondala ride to the slopes. i wouldnt suggest that to any1, we didnt enjoy the daily journey.
as for the slopes, all 3 of us preferred courchevel, it was fantastic, with wide open slopes and great snow. you will really enjoy it there. have fun though wherever you go.

I agree Courchevel is definitely more expensive. We have stayed in Val Thorens a number of times and have always had a brilliant Holiday. I guess a lot depends on the time of year. If your skiing early or late in the season I would be inclined to go to VT as your most likley to get snow. Having been in Easter VT was really the only area that could be skied to its full potential.
Definitely pick up the majority of your food at the bottom of the mountain, it will save you a fortune. There are lots of supermarkets around Moutiere so it would definitely be worth stopping.

Got back from Courchevel 1850 in January. I initially thought that the prices wouldnt be too bad as I have read some reveiws with mixed opinions. But I can confirm that the prices there are ridiculous... unless you have very deep pockets and a wedge of cash to blow, I'd suggest that you try Meribel or VT. When we were there, there was an Arab Prince in town. Lots of white 4x4's and bodygaurds around the village.

Putting money aside, if you are begginners/intermediates, you will all love Courchevel 1850 as there are lots of gentle Greens and Blues to boost confidence. If you wnat to dabble on Reds and Blacks you will also love the challenges from the top. My misses is a bit of a whimp but she thoroughly enjoyed. As for me, I met a few guys from Essex and decided to go up to VT and back. After a very hard days skiing, I thought I'd have to buy a new pair of bionic legs off e-bay

In my opinion, if you are feeling flush with the cash, go for Courcheval but if you dont want to pay through the nose for most things, I'd suggest trying one of the other valleys. There again, it is the Alps

Why not stay in Courchevel 1550, much cheaper down there, easy to get the bubble up to 1850 where the skiing is great for all levels, especially beginners they can have great fun there on the greens and blues as already pointed out.

Just take food with you for a day out don't buy anything in 1850 need a credit card with a huge limit just for a couple of hot chocs.

Rest of 3V good but have been to Courchevel twice as it was great for the beginners we had.
