Hey everyone, I am a 20 year old student from Canberra Australia. I'm currently searching for work at the end of the year in a European ski resort. I am a well experienced bartender, having spent over 18 months working in a busy city bar and another 4 years in hospitality. Does anyone know of any employers currently looking for hospitality staff?

Thanks Hugh

hugh, welcome to the madhouse, i am generally not one for suggesting other websites on forums but for employment in europe your best bet is to have a look at www.natives.com that is where pretty much every job available in ski resorts gets advertised

Hello Hughy,

Great idea ...
Good luck.

Be warned though - the mountains have a habit of getting a bit addictive - I went for 3 months and stayed 5 years !!
Good times.

A couple of questions.
Are you in the UK over this summer - for interviews?
Where do you stand with respect to any work entitlement and visa?

Cem is right about natives.com being a good place to look but there are also 2 other possible routes.

UK tour operators - those with catered accomodation and in house bars in particular. These companies will all ready be recruiting for next season so start to make some applications.
Hit the internet and search - many of them have a "work for us" bit on their websites.
I am thinking here of the likes of Mark Warner, Total Ski etc - the list is long and you may need to be really persistent. Maybe a place to start is to search for catered chalet hotels - these tend to need more staff and many have in-house bars.

Another route is to make some contacts in the UK Aussie community - there seem to be as many Colonials in the Alps as Brits in some resorts and some of these people may have ideas and contacts. If you are brave and have a bit of cash some people just turn up in a resort in November and walk the streets asking everywhere for work. Val D'Isere and Meribel would be a couple of suggestions.

You will need to be aware of the legal work stuff - whilst there is quite a lot of working on the black (in France - where I know) this can be a bit hit and miss and can lead to real problems if you don't have the paperwork to work legally - but, hey ho, many people manage this.

Good luck and let us know how you progress.
