Including Videos from Youtube

Although they (youtube) have changed this a few times in the past, here is how to easily include a youtube clip in a post to the forum.

You just need to remember to get the "long link" from youtube, which you can use with our Forum's Youtube button.


Step-by-step...


Go to the youtube page

E.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1A9UZd2LwQ

(this is NOT the link you're looking for)


Click Share

Below the video frame is a row of buttons; click the one that says "Share" to display a short youtu.be URL pre-selected with a blue background.

(this is also NOT the link you're looking for)


Get the "Long" Link

Click the "Options" link shown below the URL and tick the box where it says "Long link".

The URL shown will change to be a youtube.com address, something like this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1A9UZd2LwQ

(this IS the link you're looking for - yay!)

Copy and paste this link into your post, select it and then click the Youtube button on the post editor... so it all looks like this...

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1A9UZd2LwQ[/youtube]


Then, when you Preview or Submit your post it should look like this...



Job done! (until Youtube change the interface again...)

I've now edited the Youtube link I put in the thread about the Courchevel toboggan run. I didn't know how to do the last bit before, so I had to leave it as a link to click on.

Are all your very useful instructions on these matters - like how to post photos etc. all collected together somewhere? I'm stuck on how to do multiple quotes from previous pages and I can't work out how to do it.

Admin, i have noticed that many other forums can embed youtube vids by simply typing the url in the body of your message without the need for the tags.....is this not possible in this software?

There are links in the left-hand menu; under Handy Hints.

Good suggestion. It's not possible at the moment, but should be straightforward to add... I'll put it on the list!
