Anyone know if its possible to walk to the gondolas or is a bus always necessary? Is the snow good enough in resort in April or would you need to go to the glacier, if so is it busy there?

Not sure about April. But have been there a few times in jan and am going back in mid march although to leogang 15 ish miles away. Gondola is walking distance within town centre otherwise u would prob need a bus. Even if snow is good the glacier is still well worth a visit. But I imagine if snow is dwindling it would be an ant hill. ;-/ hope this helps.

We were in Zell in the summer & walked to one gondola which took us to mid station. Getting to the other ones that went to the top was a good 30min walk uphill and that was without boots & skis. Lots of accommodation on the way to the gondolas so it depends where your staying.

Fairly easy walk to City Express gondola if you are staying in main town - and their are lockers for rent in from the Intersport shop underneath it if you don't want to carry kit every day.

Would have thought you you probably want to look to Kaprun glacier if your thinking of April, I have been to Zell in the last week in March and even tho it had been a good season snow depth wise at the end of the day it is a fairly low resort and the runs - espcially on the Sonnalm side were getting very unpleasant as the day went on.

Lovely place to go though, we have been at least once every season for last 6 years -nuff said.
