Jura Skiing
Had a fantastic few days skiing around La Dole in the Jura. Small resort, part of Les Rousses, and I thought I'd post about it as these smaller places are often overlooked in favour of much larger "mega" resorts. There are about 10 stations within an hour of geneva, from La Dole to Crozet, all of which off a variety of different ski experiences. These are mostly small, one chairlift type resorts, usually with a range of drag lifts and tbars as well. By and large, these are excellent for families, with uncrowded pistes and parking usually RIGHT BESIDE the lifts. La Dole is a great example of the type - pistes aren't particularly well marked, but there is hardly ever a queue for lifts, and runs are a variety of blues and reds with a few blacks thrown in. This year, with the snow arriving early, they are in great shape. Some of the runs are decent length, like the Franco - Suisse in Dole which is 2.5k or so, and some are sporty, like the beautiful competition run. There's a few decent off piste trails and fantastic cross country skiing in the area as well. Finally, prices - lift passes for the day are around 28 chf, with kids passes half price.
Brilliant for beginners, or anyone looking for a relaxed ski, close to geneva.

Falling down pistes since 2009
Thanks for info. We relocating from oz to Geneva middle of this year and can't wait to hit the slopes. Any indication how how lift passes work (eg do they do season pass) and cost?

I skied in Crozet couple years back. A friend lives there so I took my skis on visiting him, it was a snowy period so we had good time. But seasons there are short - mountains are just not high enough. At the moment Jura is well covered due to recent storms, and it's cold so this snow is likely to stay for some time. Jura is good for occasional visits but not sure it's worth having a season pass (if it exists). If you are going to live in Geneva and want to have good skiing for a day without having to stay in the hotel or rent a place, then Les Contamines or Flaine should be better options.
