Hi All
Having flown to Geneva on the Thompson flight for donkey's years this year it seems not to be an option from Newcastle for Inghams so I'm off to Chambery with Jet2.
My question then is this: what are they like for ski flights in terms of bloody mindedness about baggage?
I dont have my own skis but generally pack my boot bag with sallopettes etc - will this annoy them, do they count boot bags as a separate bag to be paid for, how jobsworth are they about weight restrictions etc ?
Please share your experiences
Cheers
Jet2

We usually use jet2 from Leeds and they are very strict on weight, 23kg I think.
I tried last year to use boot bags as hand luggage as it was within their dimensions but they said it was ski equipment and we had to pay extra so we put hem in our cases......
Don't go over or they will charge. They charge extra for everything !
We are flying Thompson for first time, are they just as bad ?

You will that all 'budget' airlines are the same about baggage - that is where they make money. The additional costs (disbursements)
I always fly EasyJet, and yes they are VERY strict on baggage and will charge you for hold luggage from 1 bag. However with hand luggage, as long as it is the correct size there is no weight restriction as long as you can put it in teh overhead locker on your own.
My hand luggage is my boot bag, with boots and other various articles in there. In the many years with EJ I have never had a problem with them. I am unsure about J2, worth asking before you go - is there anything about in on their web site?

I've flown Jet2 once, Stansted to Turin. Suitcases were weighed, ski bags were not. However you had to prove you'd pre paid for ski carriage first.
I dont understand why anyone would still insist on trying to take boots on as some kind of individual item. For goodness sake, pack them in your suitcase/hold baggage and have done with it!
As for the airline: I posted this before, but they have a fleet of OLD Boeing 737s, many of which double up as cargo planes and fly the royal mail around the UK. The seats are thin and uncomfortable, like Ryanair, and mine was broken so as soon as the plane thundered down the runway I found myself on the lap of the bloke behind.
The plane itself made a lot of odd noises, but its a 737 and the only thing you need to worry about on them is the rudder jamming......doesnt happen too often, but if it does, thats curtains my friends. Funnily enough, it was a known fault on older 737s, the type Jet2 fly
I believe they have a 757 or 2 on their fleet, if you're lucky you might get one of them, much nicer plane and the pilots favourite to fly.
Don't worry, you'll be fine. Just pack sensibly.

Thanks all
The jet2 website only talks about actual ski carriage - vague at best.
I always carry my boots separetely Tony - always have done. Dunno if they fit in my main bag! Handily a bottle of duty free Absolut in Livigno / Pas fits beautifully in the boot top and clips in lovely.....
I had assumed they werent great planes but I didnt get to pick sadly as theres only one ski flight from Toon.

You'll be fine Andy. UK air worthiness is about as good as it gets!!!
I've always packed ski boots in my main bag, and put ski clothing in my ski bag.
You'll be fine with a ski bag irrespective of size. Mine weighed 18kg when I flew with them, never once got checked.

But I don't have a ski bag so weight would all be in my main hold bag which I'm sure they will check - hence the query about separate boot bags
