Ian: Italy because of price, resort, people, ski field or just because you have had great hol's there?

Andy:

I assume Austria because of the big jugs of beer?

Yep links in to La Clusaz

I thought it rang a bell as i had been giving serious thought to La Clusaz for our Feb trip. I have decided to wait a little as the area isnt the highest and see how the snow falls.
Crystal are giving FREE lift passes all season on holidays to LC.

Ian, can i ask what you see in Manigod? I have taken another look and for me it would be one of those places i would not even consider. It looks quite small and not best placed compared to other resorts in that domain.
I am guessing that it is because its a small, likely traditional, village? But does that really out weigh a bus ride to tons of drags?

Driving too?

I have a dilemma, 30th Dec Austria or Italy.

Any opinions or heard of any deals?

TP

Very very very much depends on resort.

Pila or St Anton? Easy. Austria

Niederau or Selva? Easy. Italy

Mayrhofen or Sauze? Tough choice.

Which resorts are you considering Tone?

I do like the more trad resorts although Manigod is a pretty village but the skiing is further down the road where they have developed the ski resort.
Unlike most people I don't really want to meet too many brits ...I can do that at home, there will be brits about in La Clusaz but not in Manigod ..... as for bus ride to drag lifts i don't know where you got that one from ?? with the amount of skiing how much do you want !!! I think 150 K's in Manigod/ La clusaz and another 100 down the road at Le Grand Bornand is more than enough to keep me busy for a week.
But hey ho would it not be a boring world if we were all the same.

I was looking at the area piste map and it shows Manigod village to be away from the skiing as you point out. On the map there doesn't look much around the lifts so i assumed you would be staying in the village hence the bus ride.
The lifts from Manigod are primarily drags. Again according to the map.

When are you going Ian? I am really hoping you will be going before feb as i would love to hear your thoughts as LC is still top of the pops for me in feb.

Jon

We are aiming for mid Jan, the ski areas are about 5k ( I think) from the village of Manigod and the ski accomodation built up around the lifts, so a tad purpose built but ski to and from the accomodation areas and the links look pretty good into La Clusaz..... on my return I shall post a report but I would recommend Le Grand Bornand about 7 k's down the road really good family skiing ... god I think I know it like the back of my hand went there seven years on the trott !!!!
