Love that, "all they have to do",,,,,phrase.
I showed this answer to several parents who have children skiers.
They asked me to pass this along to you.
A few "matters" not to forget in order to prepare a child for skiing.
-emergency note up to date
-gloves dry
-socked dry
-jacket pockets all closed
-lip protection on and roll in pocket
-broken snaps fixed
-bathroom visited,,,,(twice)
-googles cleaned adjusted snapped to helmet
-skis tuned and waxed
-lift ticket,,,,,,where is lift ticket,,,,,,,Frank where did you,,,,,,,,
-wipes in INSIDE jacket pocket
-money for hot chocolate
-emergency letter in jacket ( What Ian you do not have an emergency letter !!!!)
-ski center map
-Instructors name tag
-extra juice
-whistle ( what Ian no emergency whistle for your girl !!! )
-favorite Teddy Bear in back pocket
-treats ( nutsm raisins,,,,)
-Mommy's cell phone number if,,,,,
- Allergies list in case of,,,,
-final instructions on where to ski and where NOT to ski
Ohhhh Ohhhhh forgot,,,,,,
-ski pass
-clickers ( what you have no idea what they are )
-Gummy block ( What you have no idea what a gummy block is ????)
-
Finally
Last visit to toilet
Last check and lift off count down.
Room key,,,,,,who has room key??????
And so on.
I can see it now Ian,,,your wife is reading this and says ( under her breath,,,,,ALL THEY HAVE TO DO,,,,,softly,,slowly with that gaze in her eyes!!!! )
Careful Ian!
Your quite right Pavel that Little W does not carry an emergency letter but she does carry a mobile phone and yes I have no idea what a clicker is ??
She would not appreciate me putting a Teddy bear in her back pocket !!!
I always wax her skis in the morning and she never skis with a whistle. And much like royalty she never carries cash .... I think what you have to understand that Little W has a two hour ski lesson with the ESF and then she skis with us, she is not of an age where I would allow her to ski by her self, every thing else on your list is pretty much standard for us.
When I talk about unorganised parents I have experienced it with other parents I have holidayed with ... lost goggles/Sunglasses where did I put that lift pass and that is in the chalet and the most frustrating one when we are already to ski "I want a wee wee".
So what i said might seem harsh in some people's eyes but because we are organised we never experience any of the delaying problems.
And finally "All they have to do" is the normal routine parents experience at home it does not change because we go on a holiday.
And last but not least Mrs W would not be seen dead on J2ski,She does not understand it and can't understand why I spend so much time on here.
Ian,
No need to feel bad about being organized.
No need to have to explain since I already knew you were organized.
Do not have to explain, "all you have to do" because to 90% of parents all seems so easy until,,,,,,,
Just fun to list those small items.
Happy skiing.

When my daughter was young I used to write the apartment number, name, and address on a piece of paper and put it in her pocket together with the piste map - in case she got lost. She didn't used to have her own key because they don't usually give out enough keys for everyone to have one.
These days, now that she's grown up, the main problem is to get her up in the morning and try to persuade her to eat some breakfast. And then it's up to her if she's forgotten her lift pass/door key or whatever. In fact, that's how I know it takes an hour to ski from Courchevel 1650 to 1550 if you're not a very good skier because she phoned me when we were in 1650 to say she'd left the key in the apartment and she had to wait a whole hour in the ski locker room for us to turn up and let her in!

Hi Pavel,
She was 9 when we went on our first family ski holiday, and now she is 19. She has had lessons every year so I know quite a bit about kids and ski lessons!

And So what is a Clicker !!!!
A clicker.
In my area of the ski world there is an "energy unit" which is a series of small square pill like units. They are given with a "clicker" holding plastic container which when pressed via a lever makes a "clicK" sound and ejects one square ( of energy ).
Children in my family are allowed for each 10 runs,,,one click. Hence "clicker" .
If you know anything about Pavlovian Instrumental condition process these are great rewards for great runs. No sugar in units. Several flavors . Melts in mouth in seconds and really does give "energy".
That is the "clicker". All children between 5-65 years of age should have one. Great for hikers, campers and "survival" foods.
