Chris Fecher, boss of Tinderbox Ski School in Chamonix, has put together two training courses to provide a range of skills for skiers from Intermediate level and upwards. The aim is to help skiers make better, safer choices off piste.
Planned to run pre-season in Tignes, and in Chamonix during the season.

Thank you for the link, I am interested and know couple people who will be too, but there are no dates for the course yet. Guess, will have to save the link and keep checking.

Both events will initially be led by NZ Mountain Guide Russell Braddock. He's been delivering these events for over 10 years to Guides and Ski Patrol staff.

Thanks for the shout out on the Avalanche courses.
We're looking at launching the courses pre-season in Tignes, running both a 'Basic Level' and a 'Backcountry Level' course over the last couple of weekends of November. Then we'll continue to run more Avalanche course's along with our normal winter program from Chamonix as soon as the lifts open.
Keep an eye on the site for more info and dates, as I'm updating course and dates over the next few weeks.

Here is a content update for these two courses. They now supply Certificates of Achievement and an Avalanche Training Manual for folks completing the courses.

I completed a practical Avalanche Awareness couse with Chris Fecher at Tinderbox Ski School last week. Changed the way I look at a slope, and now know rather a lot more about taking safe decisions off piste (my existing knowledge was tiny) :D
Digging a Pit to test the snowpack. Layers were easily visible.
Doing a Compression Test to ascertain stability of the snowpack. We managed to get a large slab to detach.
