My niece 21 years old is going with a group to Kaprun at the end of November. I thought streuth they are taking a chance but that was until I relaised it was a glacier. She is snowboarding having only had one week before in Andorra. She is booked into have a whole day tuition at Hemel Hempstead soon. Anyone got any pointers as the ski areas or the best places for Apres!!!
Scarlet Fez,
I have skied Kaprun once, but only as a day outing away from Zell am See, so I don't know anything about apres ski there.

We went right up to the top in the gondola, and skied in the glacial bowl area. Up there, it looked all quite easy blue runs, but it was a bit scary because it was all white, with nothing to focus on, except thin black lines (the lifts) and a few people. Also, I believe it can get very windy and cold up there and they have to shut the gondola if it's too windy. We waited in Zell for the right weather before we went, and made sure it was nice and sunny and no wind.

Also, I got mild altitude sickness, and felt quite tipsy, because the gondola climbs from a fairly low altitude straight up to a very high one, and I didn't have time to adjust to it. But I still managed to ski (very carefully!).

I hope your niece has a great time snowboarding there,

Ally
Have PM'd you - I've been there last 3 years in Nov and will be there 1st week December this year.

Hi, Kaprun with the Kitzsteinhorn glacier there will be plenty of snow. The ski bus takes about 10 minutes to take you from the village of Kaprun up to the glacier ski lift.

If you go on Youtube and type in Kaprun, there are a number of videos to watch. There is one from May last year and there was plenty of snow.

There are around a dozen restaurants not sure how many will be open at that time of year. But great food and fantastic views at the top station on the Kitzsteinhorn. The restaurant at the station below is great, plenty of food in a buffet style. Plenty of reports of snow and the website at http://en.kitzsteinhorn.at/ will give you more information.

I have pasted some advertised events, posted by the tourist board. I would recommend the events at Kaprun's medieval castle, and also in the village square next to the tourist office, there is a lively bar.

There is a swimming pool, with an outside bit! and a sauna. I feel sure your niece will have a great time.

Derek
P.S. Plenty of restaurants too

Thanks for the information folks both on here and those that PM'd me.
I don't suppose you could fire those PM's my way as well? Myself and my Bro are going the back end of Jan, so it'd be great to get a few tips from those of you who've been before.

I will be skiing, and he snowboards...

Cheers

Kaprun was ok it was my first time skiing and thought it was an excelleant place to start, the glacier is good but did get foggy on one occasion and wasnt marked out very well, I would also take a trip over to zell am see it was pretty cool there too. It was bit quiet on a night and it was livelier in Zell but all round good resort and I would go back.
Life is for living so live it
Smokey Barr, course I will. Consider it done.
