Weekly Snow Report - Thursday 05 April

Snow Forecasts

The week ahead

Hello and welcome back to winter!

Well, almost. There have been increasingly heavy falls of snow over the past 48 hours in the Alps with resorts like Flaine reporting 5cm of fresh snow yesterday and Courmayeur 20cm today, Austrian areas are expected to get it next – particularly those at higher altitudes.

Saas Fee in Switzerland has also had 20cm of new snow.

Despite the long warm spell in March, most of the still-open ski areas are in good shape thanks to the heavy December and January snowfalls.

Elsewhere in the world there's been heavy snow in parts of Scandinavia, with Are in Sweden, reporting 30cm of fresh in the past 48 hours, and some Northern ski areas receiving more than two metres in the past seven days.

In North America it's a mixed picture although California and, further north, Whistler have had significant snow this week.

European Weather and Snow This Coming Week

The switch back to wintry weather shows no sign of abating, according to the latest forecasts. Further snows look likely, particularly in the Eastern and then Northern Alps, and there will be a significant - if short-lived - drop in temperature through the Easter weekend.

For those resorts still open after Easter, April is shaping up very well indeed with a high probability of fresh snow (above 2,000 metres) in many areas.

Stay safe and enjoy the snow,
The J2Ski Team

Stay Safe :- Big Snow means Big Avalanche Risk - make sure you always know and understand the local avalanche risk level before you ski or snowboard off-piste, take appropriate safety equipment and never go off-piste alone.

The Snow Reports in this e-mail are for information only. Mountain Weather Systems are notoriously chaotic and any forecast beyond 48 hours is only an indication. Snow Forecasts, Snow Depths and current local Skiing Conditions change rapidly, and you should always obtain the latest, local, information before you ski.
