The week ahead

Welcome to a slightly late weekly round-up.

Snow last week

There was very little new snow in Europe over the past seven days, and Spring skiing has been the norm under generally clear skies. The big exceptions being The Pyrenees where half a metre of fresh snow has given excellent skiing - and a number of Northern Alpine resorts that had a surprise powder day a few days ago! Elsewhere in Europe, warm temperatures have seen the closing of a number of low altitude resorts, with snow below 1,500 metres melting fast.

In North America, the East Coast season is almost over and only a few ski areas remain open. Californian resorts are in great condition, however, following recent snow, and Western Canada's great winter continues.

European Weather and Snow This Coming Week

The clear, warm conditions of the past week will continue for a few days although tempertures are set to cool noticeably in the East and this may even bring a little snow in places.

It does look as if the current settled system is about to break down, at least in the North and East of The Alps. Slightly cooler weather, with a chance of snow at altitude, has been appearing in the forecasts as we move toward Easter. Spring is unlikely to relinquish its grip low down, but high altitude skiing should remain good to the end of the season now.

Our latest snow report (30 Mar) indicates snow depths of 50 (Upper Slopes) and 50 (Lower Slopes). Vuokatti reported "N/A".
