Batawa Ski Hill was first started in 1955 by a dedicated group of Bata Shoe Factory employees. The employees obtained permission from Mr. Thomas Bata to clear some trees and install a home made rope tow on one of the hills close to the shoe factory. All the work was done by volunteers who had a keen interest in community spirit and skiing. Today, the ski hill has evolved to three lifts and seven runs and it is still managed and operated by volunteers. The Ski Hill is situated in the hamlet of Batawa which is only a 5 km drive north of highway 401. It is very accessible and the road signs are clearly marked. The roads are always ploughed,
