Ski Business Advertising - more effective Google Adwords

Advanced use of Google Adwords to advertise on j2ski, for more effective advertising.

If you are new to Google Adwords, please see our guide to Getting Started with Google Adwords, on j2ski.

Tip 1 - Upgrade from the Starter Edition

As soon as you are comfortable with all the concepts needed to manage your Ad under the Starter Edition, we recommend that you upgrade to the Standard Edition. This gives you many more options for the creation of adverts, including additional types of advertising, and much more control over how and where your ads are shown.

Before upgrading, please read this Comparison of Adwords Editions and this Guide for Newcomers to the Standard Edition.

Benefits of Upgrading

The specific benefits of the Standard Edition that we discuss below are :-

  • Site Targeting - the ability to target specific web sites (such as j2ski) for your adverts to appear on.

  • Multiple Campaigns - the ability to target different groups of visitors by location and language.

Tip 2 - Site Targeting (Standard Edition only)

By creating suitable Campaigns you can select particular web sites for your adverts to run on.

Site Targeting is usually Pay per View - at the present time, Site Targeting is only available for Pay per View campaigns in some regions. Site Targeting with Pay per Click is expected to be available soon. Please refer to Google's guide to the differences between keyword-targeted and site-targeted campaigns.

Creating a Site Targeted Campaign

After logging in to your AdWords account, navigate to your Campaign Summary page, which will look something like this :-

Click the Create a new campaign - site-targeted option as highlighted above.

When you have specified the customer-targeting, and created the first Ad in the campaign, you have the option to set the targeting of the campaign (which will apply to the Ad just created and all Ads subsequently created within that campaign).

You can select web sites by Subject or Key word.

Selecting a Web Site by Subject

Once in the Target Ad tab, select the Browse categories option and navigate to the Sports > Winter Sports category. Google will then list all the available web sites in that category. Select j2ski to target your Ads.

Selecting a Web Site by Key Word

Once in the Target Ad tab, select the Describe topics option and enter a key-word or phrase (e.g. "skiing", "ski france"). Google will then list all the matching web sites for those key words. Select j2ski to target your Ads.

Tip 3 - Use Multiple Campaigns to target different Customers

When you create a new campaign, whether keyword-targeted or site-targeted, you can target your customers both by language and by location (the location of your customer / our visitor - not necessarily the location of your business).

From Google's Guide for Newcomers to the Standard Edition :-

New campaigns let you target different countries or cities as well as different languages. Each campaign has its own budget. So, it can also be a useful way to manage your advertising budget.
